Claude Vernon Hale, 85, of Hopper Creek Road, London, Kentucky, died Sunday, September 2, 2001, at the Marymount Medical Center in London.

Born November 8, 1915, he was a retired farmer and member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rebecca (Higgins) Hale and Sid Hale; and his wife, Otie (Smith) Hale. Survivors include two daughters, Pansy Williams and Rebecca Williams, both of London, Ky.; a son, Charles Hale of Carmi, Illinois; a sister, Geneva Looney of New Miami, Ohio; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 4, at the House-Rawlings Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Denvis Rush officiating. Burial followed in the Hale Cemetery at London.

Sidney Hale was the first in his neighborhood to get a radio. Everyone used to gather at his house on Saturday night to listen to the radio.
