    DAVIS, Frank Mason, Sr., Chief Hospital Corpsman, U.S. Navy Retired, 75, of 1153 Davis Lane, Vinton, departed this life on Saturday, March 15, 1997 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Tom's Creek, (Wise County) Va. on July 5, 1921. He attended Hillsville High School, graduated from Ervinton (Va.) High School, and attended the College of William and Mary. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the war in Viet Nam. He served his country proudly for 30 years. Afterward he devoted the remaining years of his life working for veterans rights. He was President of Fleet Reserve Associ ation, Branch 41. He was Sr. Vice Commander and Past Commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4522, where he was named All-State Commander 3 years. He was also Seam Squirrel of Military Order of the Cootie, Unit 10. He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie L. Davis, his brother, Marvin L. (Monk) Davis, and his sister, Lura Anita (Katie) Smith. Survivors are his wife of 53 years, Helen L. Ridings Davis; his mother, Ida P. Ketron Davis; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Davis Marchand, Salt Lake City, Utah, Ida K. Davis Woods, Hillsville; two sons, Frank M. Davis, Jr. and Charlie W. Davis, both of Vinton; six grandchildren, Mindy Woods Anderson, Jennifer Kay Woods, Erin Devon Davis, Jared Keith Davis, Sarah Elizabeth Davis and Blaine Edward Davis; great-grandson, Seth David Webb. Many nieces and nephews and special friends Robert and Maxine Turman. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Dennis Moore and Rev. Holly Phillips at 1 p.m. Monday, March 17, 1997 at Beaverdam Baptist Church in Chamblissburg, where his body will lie in state for one hour before the service. Military burial will follow immediately at the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, March 16 from 12 to 3 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Lotz Vinton Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Beaverdam Baptist Church Building Fund in his honor. They also wish to thank the VA Medical Center for their care, and pray that America will continue to support and honor it's war veterans.
