At the time of his death, he was widowed, was a retired Public Utility Pipe Mechanic and lived at 1211 Azalea Drive in Munster, Lake County, Indiana.

Richard Newman (g-grandma Coffman's brother) had a daughter named Alice Newman. Alice had two children named Thurman and Carrie Bailey. Alice died young and her husband re-married.(Her name is unknown). The story Vida told was that the step-mother did not like the kids so they moved in with their grandparents.
