PENNINGTON GAP, Va. Hubert Hube Coffman, 88, of the Stone Creek community, died Friday (Sept. 3, 1999) at Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.

He was born in Stone Creek, Va. where he was a resident most of his life.

He was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMW of A. He was a member of The First Baptist Church in St. Charles, Va.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Coffman; parents, John and Rena Coffman; several brothers and sisters.

Surviving are one son, Don Coffman, Kingsport; three daughters, Lynda Vaughan, Brandon, Fla., Cathy Napier, Woodway, Va., Evelyn Thomas, Jonesville, Va.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathleen Johnson, Odessa, Texas.

Calling hours are from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at Province Funeral Home in Pennington Gap.

Services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. today in the Sanctuary of the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Robbins officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, Va.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1 p.m. for the services.

John Aaron lived in Pocket along the North Fork of the Powell River. His house was on the opposite side of the river from the road and there was no bridge. This river is not really deep or wide in all places but to keep from having to wade it all the time, they used a small boat to get to the house. John was well known for growing watermelons , especially yellow watermelons which were unheard of in that area.
