Johnie Calvin Coffman was born on 23 Oct 1926 in Wise Co, VA (son of Claude Cameron Coffman and Alice Perkins); died on 13 Aug 2021 in Fayette Co, OH; was buried in Warren Co, OH.

    Notes:

    Died:
ohnie Calvin Coffman, age 94, of Waynesville (from 1945-2019) and lately Washington Court House, passed on Friday, August 13.

A quiet, soft-spoken, a fiercely family man, a job setter of American machines, a builder of bikes for countless kids, a happy player in any sporting game, a saver of seeds, an exhaustive vegetable grower, an adviser to countless home projects, a collector of things of yet unknown use, an owner of everything tool or nail, the mold for the Energizer Bunny, and a close friend to his God.

A WWII Army veteran, Johnie married, in 1950, Marjorie Eileen Williams of Bellbrook (d. 2019). He worked for 45 years at Frigidaire (later Harrison Radiator). He was a proud lifelong IUE member, Master Mason at Waynesville Lodge 163 since 1981 (Worshipful Master 1991), a member of the Scottish Rite, and Miami Cemetery trustee (1997-2009). His passions were his Bible, singing gospel sings, and his church, Dodds Free Pentecostal, serving as a trustee for 40+ years.

He will be missed by his daughter Cathy and husband Dick; his son John and wife Rhonda; his grandson Justin and wife Katie; his grandson John Tyler, wife Meagan, and children Mason, Gavin, Cooper, Cohen and Beckett; his sister-in-law Dorothy Gompf; his living siblings Harold, Dorothy Johnson, Tina Williams, Robert, Gerald, David and Theresa Lamb; many nieces, nephews and their families; and his church community. Johnie sorely missed his parents Claude and Alice (Perkins) and his departed siblings George, Clara Head, Pauline, Elizabeth, James, Roy, and Ralph.

The family will receive friends 1:00 PM - 1:30 PM Saturday, August 21 at Dodds Free Pentecostal Church of God at 3157 Old 122 in Waynesville. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:30 PM at the church. Jay Osborn will be officiating. Burial will be at Miami Cemetery in Corwin. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family.

    Notes:

    Died:
COFFMAN, Marjorie Eileen Williams Age 89, of Waynesville, died on Dec. 27th, 2019. Empathy for and encouragement of others were her lifeblood, lending her kind ear, warm heart, and willing hands to family, strangers, fellow workers, neighbors, and her church community. Born to Llewellyn and Juanita Merriam Williams, she graduated from Bellbrook High School in 1948. She worked at National Cash Register (NCR) until two years after her marriage in 1950. In 1969, she returned to NCR until 1973, then spent the next 23 years with Bethany Lutheran Social Services. For her last 16 years, she was chief payroll and personnel officer for 400+ employees. Wanting to be an elementary teacher but unable to afford college, she joyfully taught preschoolers in Sunday School instead. Even without a college education, she was more well read, thanks to strong public libraries, than many college English and history majors. She followed newspapers and news programs avidly, and read and reread her Bible. Her politics were of the heart; whoever championed the least among us received her vote. She will be forever missed by all those who experienced her compassion and her love: Johnie, her husband of 69 years; her daughter Cathy and husband Dick; her son John and wife Rhonda; her grandsons Justin and John Tyler and their wives and families; her younger sister Dorothy; many nieces, nephews and their families; and her church community of Dodds Free Pentecostal Church of God. She sorely missed her siblings who preceded her in death: Bob, Don, Frank, and Harold Williams and Shirley Holtgreven. The family will receive friends at Dodds Free Pentecostal Church of God in Waynesville from 10:30 AM 12 PM Sat., Jan. 4, with a funeral service immediately following. Jay Osborn will be officiating. Burial will be at Miami Cemetery in Corwin. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home, Waynesville is serving the family. If desired, contributions can be made to Hospice of Dayton. 1. 8.  Henry Marion Coffman was born on 4 May 1867 in TN (son of William M. Coffman and Jane Coats); died on 7 Oct 1933 in Lee Co, VA; was buried in Lee Co, VA.

    Notes:

The date of death is from his death certificate.
His gravemarker shows Oct 8, 1933. The birth certificate does not show a date of birth but it does show his age as
    64 years/6 months/20 days which would resolve to 18 Mar 1869.
The 1870/1880 census shows him borm in abt 1867

Asked if she remembered Henry Coffman, his granddaughter Vida Hale Pope said yes she did. She remembered him as being very kind and gentle. She could remember when she was very young sitting on his lap and him rocking her. Vida said the story of him being shot while riding horseback was not true. The family could have never afforded a horse.

Henry and John Aaron Coffman worked at Bodert Mines which were closed as the depression set in. The two brothers then started working a mine in Pocket. Henry would walk from V.I.C. (a mining camp just outside of St Charles) to Pocket (guessing about 3-4 miles) everyday to work the mine. Henry died shortly after they started up the mine. Vida thought walking in the bad weather may have lead to his death, but from the cause of death on the his death certificate I wouldn't think so.

    Notes:

Note from Vida Hale Pope - Grandma Coffman always claimed that God "told her things". She said that God told her that Evan (her grandson) was going to die while visting family in Kentucky. Evan did develop diphtheria and may have died from a reaction to the medience he was given. Grandma said nothing about this until years later.
