Edward “Ted” Ridings was born March 28, 1935 in Laurel County, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Virgil O. Ridings and Bertha Wilkerson Ridings. He was united in marriage to Billie Anne Shomaker Ridings who survives of London, Kentucky. He is also survived by his son Gary Ridings, of London; one great-granddaughter, Lillianne Ridings; plus a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his three siblings, Virgil Ridings, Jr., Naomi Elgene Ridings, and Willette Kennedy.

Ted was a Shriner and a member of the McKee Masonic Lodge for over 60 years, where he served as a former Master. He retired from Kern’s Bakery after 49 years. He was an avid gardener and a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he also served as an usher for 40 years.

Edward “Ted” Ridings departed this life Friday, August 4, 2023 being 88 years, 4 months and 7 days of age.

The funeral service for Edward “Ted” Ridings will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Sean Ryan officiating. Burial will follow in A.R. Dyche Memorial Park.

The family of Edward “Ted” Ridings will receive friends at Bowling Funeral Home Monday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour of 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, 301 W Fifth Street, London, KY 40741.

Pallbearers: Mike Burkhart, Jody Albright, Bart Binder, Alivn Hughes, Anthony Allen, Scott Ward and Jeff Baxter.

Honorary Pallbearers: Jack Binder, Eldon Robbins, Bobby O’Neal and Jonathan Burkhart.

Bertha WILKERSON Ridings, 83, died at the St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington, 10 Dec 1988.

Born on 7 Oct 1905 in Laurel County, she was the daughter of the late James and Barbara ONKST Wilkerson.

Survivors include her husband, Virgil O. RIDINGS; a son, Ted RIDINGS, Lexington; a daughter, Willette KENNEDY, Ft. Wright; a grandson, Gary RIDINGS and a great grandson, Michael RIDINGS. Also surviving are three sisters, Mary FREDERICKS, London, Zetta JONES, Somerset, and Ruby BUGLIONE, Cincinnati, OH.

Funeral services were held at the Liberty Baptist Church with burial in the Warrens Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Bowling Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Robert WILKERSON, Jim ARMONALD, Gary JONES, Jim FRYE, Eldon ROBBINS and David ABBOTT.

[SERIOUSLY WOUNDED-At Pittsburg last Saturday evening a difficulty came up between Craig Gragg and Robert Ridings Jr. son of John Ridings, in which Ridings was stabbed three times once in the back and abdomen and once in the side. The wounds in the back and abdomen are very slight but the one in the side is more serious, and would probably have been fatal had the knife not struck a rib and glanced off, severing the rib nearly half in two..]
