He was the oldest member of First Christian Church and a carpenter retired from Edmiston Bro. Lumber Co. Born in Somerset on July 21, 1886, he was the son of the late Lewis and Mary Ellis Ridings. Survivors include a brother, James Ridings of Corbin; a sister, Elva McGee of Tampa, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be at 10 a m Tuesday at Stith Funeral Home with Dr. William H. Jo Ann worked for the Postal Service for 25 years in the cities of Farmersville, Princeton and Paris, Texas. She was of the Methodist Faith. 2954 | Joey Bennett age, 79, of Connersville, went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning May 10, 2015 at Hickory Creek of Connersville, where he had been a patient for a approximately five months. Born in Arjay, Kentucky on July 7, 1935, he is the son of the late Theo and Renie Miracle Bennett. He was a member of the Woodland Bible Church where he was very active in church activities and had served on the Connersville Community Bible Missionary and Woodland Bible Church Board for over 30 years. He was a licensed Lay Pastor through the Woodland Bible Church for over 22 years ministering to the jail inmates at the Fayette County Jail. Joe retired in 1993 from Ford Electronics and Refrigeration after 40 years of service. He was a member of Davis Memorial United Methodist Church where he served in several capacities. Mr. Atkins was an Engineer with Brunswick Defense Plant for over 30 years. He was a farmer in the Atkins Community and was the owner of Atkins Construction Company. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Hall Atkins. 2958 | John M. Yonts, 86, of Rushford, MN died on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford. John Mason Yonts was born on August 13, 1933, in Groseclose in Smyth County Virginia to William Grady and Ora Mabel (Lindamood) Yonts. He was raised at Groseclose, Virginia in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains. John attended high school in Marion, Virginia. He entered the U.S. Air Force where he served most of his time in Waverly, Iowa. On June 21, 1952, John was united in marriage with Ethel Miles at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. After their marriage, John and Ethel remained in Waverly. In 1957, they moved to a farm at Highland Prairie, south of Rushford. John got his auctioneering license during this time. In 1968, he decided to follow his experience cooking in supper clubs and purchased Niggle's Café, renaming it Johnny's Café and moving to Rushford. After several years of running the café, John started his own trucking business with his sons. He worked as a trucker until age 84 and was proud to say he never had an accident in over 40 years. He continued to cater local picnics, graduations and weddings with his famous beef and pork. He also cooked at Montini Hall in Rushford for many days, serving all of the people of Rushford affected by the flood of 2007. Community was important to John; as a member of the Lion's Club, charter member of Rushford Area Business Association (RABA), and a charter member of Fillmore County NFO. He was elected to the Rushford city council in 1979 and mayor from 1985 to 1993. During his time, the Economic Development Authority (EDA) was formed and the Rushford Community Park was completed with the playground. He was so proud of all the progress Rushford made during this time to ensure a viable future for the city. He is survived by his wife, Ethel; children: Jim (Kathy) Yonts, Mary (Larry) Bergin, Edward (Beth) Yonts, and Carol (Tom) Meyer, daughter-in-law Linda (Dave) Hundorf; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; sisters: Nancy (David) Hilton of Kingman, AZ, Margaret (Kenneth, Sr.) Sledd of Marion, VA, and Mary (Paul) Snavely of rural Retreat, VA, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless good and faithful friends. John was preceded in death by his son William, a brother James, and sisters, Ruby Nell and Janet Louise. He served his country as part of the Army Security Agency. He retired from General Motors Delphi after 28 years of service. He enjoyed playing his guitar and taking care of his yard. He loved spending time with his family and having long conversations with his friends. He was often followed by his shadow and faithful companion, his dog Sadee. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. John was born in VanBuren, Ark., and during the Depression years, he ventured to N.Y. with his young family in search of better job opportunities. He became one of the original employees of Link Aviation and during World War II supervised the radio department. He retired from Link's in 1971 to devote his time to his love of beekeeping and developing his honey sales business. With the assistance of his wife, Eva, they distributed honey to many stores throughout the N.Y. and Pa. area. Josh touched the life of every person who knewhim. With his death he was able to give eight strangers a new chance of life through his organ donation. Joyce was born on January 30, 1935, to the late James and Patsy Ridings. Joyce married William Ray “Buddy” Jones on August 2, 1971. She loved working on their dairy farm. She was a retired farmer and homemaker. She loved her animals. Joyce will be missed by so many that knew her. She loved all of her CNA’s at Somerwoods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Joyce never met a stranger and had a way of making every one smile she came in contact with, no matter what kind of day they were having. She is survived by her sons, Bobby Ray Ridings, of Boaz, Alabama, and Steven Ray Warren, of Springfield, Illinois; her daughter, Peggy Jo Warren, of Springfield, Illinois; two sisters, Barbara Sneed, of Bardstown and Helen (and Dee) Haste, of Bardstown; special nieces, Shirley (and David) Hughes and Rita (and Rick) Gilreath; a special nephew, Gary (and Lynn) Grimsley and several other nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews that will mourn her passing. She was born Feb. 22, 1876 and was a daughter of Joseph and Patience Sasser Tuttle. she had been in ill health a number of years and became critically ill about a month ago at her home on Route 1 and was removed to the Smith Hospital by the Kincaid Funeral home where she partically recovered and was removed to her daughter's home. She was married to Mr. Thomas Hale, son of the late Dr. J.T. Hale, Bef. 23, 1893 at Bush who together with five daughters, Mrs. W.H. Greene, London; Mrs. J.R. Wilkerson and mrs. V.L. Clark, Corbin, Mrs. T.J. Greene, Gadsden, AL; and mrs. Roy perry, Whitley City and a son, Ray Hale of London, survive her, four sons and a daugther having preceded her in death. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. S.W. Asher, Lexington; Mrs. E. Hale, Medford, OR; and Mrs. C.C. Harkelroad, Fariston and one brother, Mr. J.R. 2980 | Junior Earl Ridings, 84, beloved friend to Russell Boggs, passed away peacefully, at Roo Lan Health Care in Lacey, WA. He was better known as ‘Earl’ to his friends. He was born May 14, 1936, in Fork Ridge, Tennessee, to Eugene and Hazel Ridings. While attending Rainier School in Buckley, Wash for quite some time, he began to work at a nursing home owned by Russell’s grandfather in Kent, WA. As time went on, the nursing home was sold by grandpa and Earl had become part of the family. Grandpa and Earl relocated to Onalaska, WA where, from bare ground, a farm was started. Earl worked by grandpa’s side on the farm. He enjoyed all aspects of farm life-taking care of the animals, haying (even in 90 degree weather) and the comradery of talking to other farmers that would stop by to visit. Junior also enjoyed riding his bicycle and going to church. Earl was the last of the “Dun Roamin' Ranch” era. He was a Army veteran and a member of the Miles Freemason Lodge #165. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Minnie Carter, three brothers Jack Coffman, Ray Coffman and Gene Carter , two sisters JoAnn Carter Doss, Gay Anderson. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Dora Carter of the home, one son Michael Shannon and wife Betty Jo of Jonesville, VA one daughter Leshia Carter of Pennington Gap, VA and two grandsons that was his world Austin Hornby and Jacob Calhoun and numerous nieces and nephews family and friends.
