She was a member of New Salem Freewill Baptist Church for over 60 years, serving as song leader, Sunday school teacher, and the clerk-treasurer of the church. As a young lady, she served as the leader of Girl Scout Troop #24 in Decatur. Later in life, she volunteered at the Sunny Hills Nursing Home. She joined the Wise County Historical Society, and was selected to serve a term as the President of the society. She also served as Curator of the Wise County Heritage Museum. She was preceded in death by her parents; an unnamed infant brother; three sisters, Mary Catherine Jobe, Minnie Violet Whitworth, and Melba Joyce Lunsford; and great grandson, Taylon James Williams. Baylor is survived by her husband of sixty-five years Marvin Blair, Captain U.S. Navy (Ret.); her son Marvin Blair, Jr. of Nashville, TN; her daughter Meg Blair of Papillion. Baylor also leaves behind her daughter-in-law Joann Blair; her son-in-law Leonard Megee; and her two granddaughters, Tatiana and Alëna Blair-Megee. Baylor and Marvin married on October 25, 1944, after Marvin received his commission as an Ensign in the Navy. During the next thirty-plus years, Baylor shared a Navy life with Marvin that took them to Hawaii, California, New Mexico, Connecticut, South Carolina, and finally Nebraska where Marvin retired from the Navy in 1972. Settling in Bellevue, Baylor worked as a real estate broker for several years, following which she opened Baylor's Wee Dolphin Shoppe, an antiques and gift shop in Bellevue. Baylor and Marvin moved to Short Hills, NJ in 1977 where they lived until 1984, when they moved to Hot Springs Village, AR. 365 | DAVIS, Frank Mason, Sr., Chief Hospital Corpsman, U.S. Navy Retired, 75, of 1153 Davis Lane, Vinton, departed this life on Saturday, March 15, 1997 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Tom's Creek, (Wise County) Va. on July 5, 1921. He attended Hillsville High School, graduated from Ervinton (Va.) High School, and attended the College of William and Mary. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the war in Viet Nam. He served his country proudly for 30 years. Afterward he devoted the remaining years of his life working for veterans rights. He was President of Fleet Reserve Associ ation, Branch 41. He was Sr. Vice Commander and Past Commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4522, where he was named All-State Commander 3 years. He was also Seam Squirrel of Military Order of the Cootie, Unit 10. He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie L. Davis, his brother, Marvin L. (Monk) Davis, and his sister, Lura Anita (Katie) Smith. Survivors are his wife of 53 years, Helen L. Ridings Davis; his mother, Ida P. Ketron Davis; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Davis Marchand, Salt Lake City, Utah, Ida K. Davis Woods, Hillsville; two sons, Frank M. Davis, Jr. and Charlie W. Davis, both of Vinton; six grandchildren, Mindy Woods Anderson, Jennifer Kay Woods, Erin Devon Davis, Jared Keith Davis, Sarah Elizabeth Davis and Blaine Edward Davis; great-grandson, Seth David Webb. LONDON, KENTUCKY LEWIS HALE HURT FATALLY DIES IN PENNINGTON HOSPITAL FROM INJURIES HE RECEIVED WHEN STRUCK BY CCC TRUCK NEAR BALD ROCK CAMP Lewis Hale, 61 years old, farmer of Bald Rock, died at 12:30 o'clock this morning at the Pennington Hospital from injuries received at 1:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon when he was struck by a CCC truck near the Bald Rock Camp, F-15. Both of his legs were broken above the knees and he received internal injuries and major bruising. His body was removed to the Rawlings Funeral Home for burial preparations tomorrow. Ed Hammond, 20 years old, of Delta, Wayne County, driver of the truck told ambulance attendants that Mr. Hale stepped directly into the path of the motor and that he could not avoid striking him. J.J. Avent, assistant improvements superintendent, and A.S. Anderson, assistant forest supervisor, both of the Winchester office of the U.S. Forestry Service of the Cumberland National Forest are here to investigate the accident. Mr. Hale is the son of the late Millard Hale and a grandson of the late Wes Hale. His wife, Mrs. Vira Arnold Hale, who survives him, is the daughter of J.H. Arnold and is postmaster at Bald Rock. LONDON, KENTUCKY LAST RITES FOR LEWIS HALE LARGE CROWDS FROM LONDON AND CORBIN AT POYTNER'S CHAPEL FRIDAY TO HONOR MEMORY Funeral services for Lewis Hale, who died last Thursday, Dec. 29, from injuries received the Tuesday before when struck by a CCC truck near his home at Bald Rock, were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Poytner's Chapel. Revs Bonnie Hale and John Stewart were in charge of the service which were attended by a very large crowd of people, including large delegations of friends from London and Corbin. Interment was in the church cemetery by the Rawlings Funeral Home. The pallbearers were W.N. Scoville, Chester Scoville, John Dillion, Harve Steele, Berry Little, and C.C. Poytner, all of London. Mr. Hale was born at Bald Rock on June 16, 1887, a son of Millard and Ellen Butcher Hale, and spent all of his life in that section where he was a leading farmer and for some time postmaster and was sixty-one years, six months and fifteen days old at the time of his death. He was married July 8, 1902 to Miss Vira Arnold, daughter of J. H. Arnold, also of Bald Rock, who survives him. Also surviving are eight children, three daughters and five sons: Mrs. Emory Johnson of London and Mrs. Edward Clark and Mrs. Edgar Clark of Bald Rock; and Messrs Ted Hale of Corbin, and Tilford, Wesley, Bev, and Warren Hale, all of Bald Rock. Another son, Ernest, died in infancy. Also surviving aer seventeen grandchildren and three sisters and one brother: Mrs. Mack Master and Mrs. Cephus Earls, of Corbin; Mrs. Kate Griffin, of London Route 1 and Mr. Willie Hale of London Route 1. Mr. Hale was a member of the Christian church and always interested in the welfare of all the people about him and counted his friends by his acquaintances and will be sadly missed by the entire community. LONDON, KENTUCKY HAMMONS PLACED UNDER 3,000 BOND Appearing before Magistrate Carter Wilder, acting county judge, Ed Hammons, 20 years old, of Delta, Wayne county, charged with willful murder in connection with the death of Lewis Hale, waived the case befoer the grand jury and was placed under bond of $3,000, in default of which he was committed to the Laurel county jail. Hale was fatally injured last week when he was struck by a CCC truck, driven by Hammonds, near the Hale home in Bald Rock. 387 | Delores Ann Eavey, age 68, of Conowingo, MD, passed away on June 19, 2020. She was born on August 8, 1951 in Lynch, KY to the late Ralph Phillips and Dorothy (Lockhart) Phillips. Delores worked for Conowingo Elementary School for 28 years as a secretary, and was a lifetime member of 30 years at Pleasant View Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time in her garden and loved being outdoors. Delores loved going to the beach, eating crabs, and spending time with her grandchildren. She will always be known for her great cooking and will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Delores is survived by her husband, Bill Eavey of Conowingo, MD; son, Ronnie Graybeal and his wife, Jennifer of Mountain Top, PA; two daughters: Teresa Miller and her husband, Wendell of Friendship, NY and Fallon Eavey of Conowingo, MD; three sisters, Donna Brown of Warwick, MD; Linda Johnson of Bartow, FL; and Karen Stutelberg of Perryville, MD; twenty-four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 388 | DENISON - E. F. "Sonny" Feath, 90, entered into eternal life Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 at Beacon Hill Nursing Home in Denison, Texas. Mr. Feath was born March 15, 1922, the son of Mike and Matilda (Maywald) Feath in Denison. He served his country proudly in the U. S. Army where he earned a purple heart in the 96th Infantry Division in Okinawa during World War II. He married the love of his life, Mary Norie May 10, 1947 at Saint Patrick Catholic Church. He worked locally for the Katy Railroad and as a custom home builder for many years. When not at work, he enjoyed playing golf at the Grayson County College golf course. Sonny was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. He was a good and faithful servant. He served as usher for more than 20 years. Sonny loved his family dearly, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Mr. Feath is survived by his beloved family, daughter, Carol Douglas and husband Wilber of Denison; two grandsons, Chris Douglas and John Douglas, both of Denison. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Feath, parents, Mike and Matilda Feath, two brothers, William Feath and Edward Feath, and three sisters, Mamie Brown, Josephine Anthony and Frances Pemberton. She died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, in Texoma Medical Center. Mrs. Coffman was born Dec. 7, 1918, in Fort Scott, Kan., the daughter of A.J. and Stella Drummond Wallace. She married Charles "Shorty" Coffman in December 1943 in Lufkin. Mr. Coffman died Jan. 1, 1994. Mrs. Coffman was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was a thoughtful and gracious lady who always put others first. Kay left behind many special friends. Surviving is her daughter-by-choice, Neochia Thompson of Denison, who was also her caregiver.
