She fell overboard and her body was never recovered. She has been missing since 1976, declared dead in 1982. She left two children; Regina Beth Liford and Dennis Liford. The circumstances of her death are considered somewhat of a mystery to her family. The full details of the accident have never been disclosed by the other people on the boat, in fact the investigation of the whole matter were hushed up. If anyone has any information on her death, it would be a comfort to her children and siblings. Her daughter, "Gina" was visiting me just two weeks ago, here in northern Indiana. She is currently a student at the University of Kentucky. She will be a dentist. She graduated from Union College last year in Barbourville, after being elected Homecoming Queen. She is both beautiful and intelligent, having won numerous beauty and talent contests, and graduated both high school and college with honors. She and her brother were raised by her Aunt Joyce "Joy" Hale Hill, her father, Dennis Liford, Sr., but primarily by her second cousin Hayden Watkins (great grandson of Nancy Sasser Williams) and his wife Regina, whom Regina (Gina) was named. Hayden and Regina live at the "Old Sasser Place," the old homestead of James M. Sasser and Minnie M. Humfleet in Tuttle, LCK. Dennis Liford is married, has no children and lives with is wife in Corbin. Her sister Joy Hale Hill and brother Coleman Hale live in the Tuttle community, LCK. Thanks for asking, Theresa Sasser Wilson Updates: 02 Jul 2004 Let me offer some accurate dates and information: # Pat was not missing in 1976 (that would make it hard for her to have Gina in 1979), she has been missing since June 27, 1982, and has never been declared legally deceased. # The children were primarily raised by me, their father, with much appreciated help from the family; Gina desired to move into the home with Hayden and Regina when she was 14. | 4263 | Penny Ward McKee Ireland passed away on Friday, January 23, 2015. She was born on June 29, 1950, in Christiansburg, Va., to Pete and Mabel McKee. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband of 30 years, Pat Ireland. After fighting a courageous battle with cancer for the last year, Penny leaves behind a stepson, Shawn Patrick Ireland and his wife, Sue, of Christiansburg to cherish her memories. She also leaves many good teacher friends and wonderful neighbors.Penny had a love of flowers and each year her side yard was brought to life with an array of them in unusual antique containers. This past spring she was unable to plant them, but her neighbors and retired teachers planted them for her so she could enjoy them when she came home. Penny went to Christiansburg schools all her life and graduated from Christiansburg High School in 1968. She held BS and MS degrees from Virginia Tech. She taught 6, 7, and 8th grade Language Arts and Social Studies at Christiansburg Middle School for 30 years. During this time she served as the department head for Social Studies, helped sponsor the newspaper and yearbook, ran the school supply store, and served as social director for many activities at CMS. In addition to teaching full time at CMS, she also taught aerobics for 16 years through New River Community College. During the course of the 180 day school year, it was noted by students and teachers that Penny never wore the same outfit twice. All her outfits were complemented by matching jewelry, shoes, and purses. Penny and Pat traveled throughout the United States and abroad. These travels benefited Penny's students because she enriched her classes with stories, pictures, and artifacts from her trips. Upon retirement, Penny and Pat traveled to many places for Pat to participate in trap shoots. Penny, who was not interested in shooting, used that time to become an antique and thrift store collector. Quilts and bears were only a few of her favorite things to collect. She was quick to spot a bargain from far away. Then she had to use her mathematical mind and knowledge of geometry to help her pack all those antiques in her limited car space. Penny had antique booths in Salem, and in later years she displayed her treasures at Chic's in Floyd. Penny wanted to thank Heritage Hall, Montgomery Lewis Gale Hospital, Dr. Harry McCoy and staffs for their wonderful care during the last year of her life. Special thanks go to her good friend, Connie Turner, who was at her side during most of this ordeal. Her generosity towards friends and her family will always be remembered. In lieu of flowers, Penny requested contributions be made to the Pat Ireland Memorial Scholarship Amateur Trapshooting Association, P.O. Box 519, Sparta, IL 62286, Attn: Emily Zollner, AIM National Coordinator or your favorite charity. Visitation will be held on Tuesday 27, 2015, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will begin at 3 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. | McKee, Penny Ward (I4979)

| 4297 | Robert “Bob” Thomas Ridings, passed away on Monday, Aug. 25, 2025, at the age of 65, after a courageous battle with glioblastoma, with his devoted partner, Wendy, by his side. Bob was born Jan. 13, 1960, in White Hall, Illinois, the son of James and Helen (Capps) Ridings. Bob was a dedicated farmer whose life was rooted in hard work and genuine care for others. He had a special love for his cows, cats, and the land he tended. Farming wasn’t just his livelihood—it was his way of life, and he approached it with patience, dedication, and respect for the simple, steady rhythm of nature. He had a connection to all of his cows, but Baby Girl held a special place in his heart. Known for his generosity, Bob never hesitated to help anyone in need. Whether through a kind word, a strong hand, or a listening ear, he had a way of making people feel valued. He valued deep conversations, often taking time to truly connect with others. He enjoyed a cup of black coffee, a good history book or crossword puzzle, and a cigar. Bob never rushed through life—he moved at his own thoughtful pace, teaching all who knew him the beauty of slowing down and being present. He will be remembered not only for the work of his hands but also for the kindness of his heart. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the lessons he quietly shared. Bob is survived by his loving partner of 23 years, Wendy (Kline) Martin of Springfield; bonus children, Patrick (Gwen) Martin of Winter Garden, Lyndsi (Adam) Reid of Rochester; sister, Sarah (Ridings) Heikes of Petersburg; niece, Katie Heikes; nephew, Will Heikes; and his cherished grandchildren, Jack, Beck, Lily, Mick, Ryan, and Chase. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Eric Heikes. A visitation was held on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2025, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Roodhouse from 1 to 3 p.m., with a prayer service that followed. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory can be made to the American Cancer Society, North Greene Food Pantry (White Hall), or a local cat rescue of your choice. Bob’s life was a reminder that the simplest joys—quiet moments, good company, and caring for others—are the greatest treasures of all. | Ridings, Robert Thomas (I6270)
