- Grundy, Kentucky, May 17 - Again has the death angel visited this community and this time called away Mr. Escol Bates, son of James J. and Rebecca F. Bates. He was born November 13, 1895, and was married to Miss Addie Simpson December 3, 1920. To this union three children were born, two girls and one boy. He became ill suddenly and was taken to the Pulaski County Hospital Monday, May 9, where he underwent an operation for appendicitis, which proved fatal. Heartbroken and weary, the family watched at his bedside, still hoping and longing that he might recover, but alas, the sad hour came, and he departed this life Thursday morning, May 12, 1927. About the event there is not only the usual sorrow, but a touch of infinite regret that the passing of one so young should be so untimely. He was a loyal friend, a devoted husband, and a loving father and will be missed in this community, where he lived. He is survived by his wife and children, also his mother, three brothers, William and James, of Grundy, and Richmond of Texas, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn their loss. His father, two sisters and two brothers preceded him to the grave. Funeral services were held Friday morning at Rock Lick conducted by Rev. W.R. Smith. Interment in Rock Lick Cemetery. Friends brought to the grave many beautiful floral tributes.
