- Mattie Lou England, 87, of Gas City, passed away at 1:40 pm on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in St. Charles, Virginia, on October 7, 1934, to Clyde and Maud (Coffman) Sprinkle. On February 18, 1955, she married Garner G. England, and he preceded her in death on November 25, 1995.
Mattie Lou graduated from Marion High School in 1952. She worked as a Librarian for over 20 years at Mississinewa Community Schools, retiring in 1995.
Mattie Lou was very involved in her church and was an elder at First Christian Church of Gas City. She participated in the church choir, Women's Circle and Young At Heart. Mattie Lou was an excellent cook and enjoyed making meals for her family. She was a giving and generous woman who was dedicated to her family and had a deep love for her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Lisa (Kevin) Royal of Fairmount; sons, David (Robin) England of Bloomington and Jonathan (Geralyn) England of Westfield; granddaughters, Macie (David) Garza and Samantha England; grandson, Daniel Schepper; great-granddaughters, Haley (Alex) Green and Gracyn Bishop; great-grandson, Carter Murphy; great-great-grandson, Rory; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents and loving husband, Mattie Lou was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward Sprinkle and Ravel Hale; and sisters, Vida Pope and Sybil Ridings.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, April 25, 2022, at First Christian Church in Gas City, 401 E. N. D St., Gas City, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a Funeral Service to celebrate Mattie Lou's life will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Lizzy Wolf officiating. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park in Marion.
