  	Dorthea Evalene Leonard, 87, of Salem formerly of Roanoke, passed away on April 22, 2006. Ms. Leonard was born at Groseclose in Smyth County, Va. She served in World War II in the WAACs, then in the Women's Army Corp. until January 1946. She graduated from Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky. and served as house mother at Methodist Children's Home in Decatur, Ga. until 1968. On returning to Roanoke, she was employed by Community Hospital as a nursing assistant until retirement. She was a member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church and Roanoke WCTU. She was honored by the Roanoke WCTU and in 1999 by the Virginia WCTU for more than 50 years of service. Ms. Leonard was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Susie Leonard; two brothers, Leon, killed in WWII, and Donald; infant sister, Isabelle; and sister June Simmons. Surviving are brothers, William J. (and Judy) Leonard of Virginia Beach, Paul Edward Leonard, Jr. (and Becky) of Roanoke, sisters, Peggy L. Stober of Vinton, and Nancy L. Calvert of Roanoke; nine nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. on Monday, April 24, 2006 at Oakey's Downtown Chapel. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Barry Foster officiating at Oakey's Downtown Chapel. Burial to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Groseclose, Va. at 2:30 p.m. A special thank you to the The Oaks at Richfield and the Good Samaritan Hospice for their loving care.
