- Archie Keith Ridings, 77, of Roanoke, VA, formerly of Tremont passed away Friday, July 10, 2020. Born December 24, 1942 in Fonde, Bell County, KY, he was the son of the late Eugene Earl Ridings and Hazel A. Hunter Ridings Stanley. Archie served 12 years in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War era. He was a SSGT and a personnel manager in the military. After his service, he worked in Oregon and Washington State as a crop duster pilot. Upon his retirement, he came to Harlan County where he was very active in community service. He was associated with the Boy Scouts of America, the Upper Cumberland Baptist Association, was a teaching assistant in the Harlan City and County Schools and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Loyall.
In addition to his parents, Archie is preceded in death by several siblings.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Lydia Helton Slusher-Ridings, Roanoke, VA; six step-sons, Steve Slusher (Janet), Louisville; Chris Slusher (Steve), Roanoke; Clay Slusher (Eva), Cumberland; Phillip Slusher (Melissa), Ringgold, GA; Jeff Slusher (Robin), Thurmont, MD; and Roger Slusher (April), Louisville. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
A private graveside service will conducted Friday, July 17, 2020, at the Resthaven Cemetery in Keith with military rites by the Harlan Honor Guard.
