- Coach Willie Hendrickson, 80, of Middlesboro, (Kentucky) passed away Monday, March 15, 2004, at the Fort Sanders - Parkwest Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was born February 15, 1924, at Fourmile, Kentucky, the son of the late Cordie Hendrickson. He was a member of the Riverside Baptist Church. Coach Hendrickson, as he was affectionately known to most everone, was a former Bell County Judge Executive. He coached Basketball for 20 seasons at Lone Jack, Bell County and Middlesboro High Schools. He was a longtime teacher and school administrator. He was an Air Force Veteran of World War II. He was inducted into the Kentucky High School Association Hall of Fame in 1998.
His survivors include Dorothy Hendrickson, his wife of 57 years. His three children: Kay (Phillip) Brooks, Peachtree City, Georgia; Billy Hendrickson, Middlesboro; and Missy (Tony) King, of Knoxville, Tennessee. He was survived by two grandchildren: Jill (Mark) Chadwell Johnson of Tupelo, Mississippi; and Eric (Mandy) Chadwell of Knoxville, Tennessee. He was also survived by 4 great grandchildren: Brenna Johnson, Hannah Kate Johnson, Caroline Chadwell and Ian Steele Chadwell.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, at the Creech Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. William Boyd Bingham and the Rev. Larry Pursifull presiding. Music will be provided by Jimmy Jackson and Dickie Siler.
Interment will be in the Pineville Cemetery, where full military honors will be given by American Legion Dewey Guy Post #14. Pallbearers will be: John and Al Brock, Sammy York, Larry Tom Davis and Bruce Hendrickson. Honorary pallbearers will be his former basketball players: Bob Madon, South Bevins, Brad Miracle, Paul Lee, Troy "Frog" Welch, Jack Smith and Rudy Williamson.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 PM Friday, at the Creech Funeral Home.
