- New Tazewell, Tenn. - Floyd Mayes, 78, born on March 21, 1928, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2006, at the Claiborne County Hospital.
A retired coal miner, he enjoyed gardening, and supplying vegetables to his neighbors. He also loved gospel and country music, and had worked for Cas Walker and played on the Grand Ole Opry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Emaline (Keck) Mayes; brothers, Ralph, Charlie, and Ted Mayes.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Mayes of New Tazewell; daughters, Carolyn Luzadder (Don) of Fort Wayne Ind., Karen Daulton (Richard L.) of Logansport, Ind., Keisha Harth of Fort Wayne, Ind., Brenda Coak (Bud) of Fort Wayne, Ind., Kim Baker (Terry) of New Tazewell; brothers, Hubert Mayes of Fort Wayne, Ind., Ray Mayes of New Haven, Ind., Earl Mayes of New Tazewell; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, at Claiborne Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Alonzo Miracle officiating. Music will be provided by L.B. and Annette Hunley.
Burial will be in the Mayes Cemetery. Pallbearers are Terry Baker, Derek Cook, Vernon Fuson, Paul Mayes, Richard Daulton, and John Bolden
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, at Claiborne Funeral Home, New Tazewell, Tenn., which is in charge of arrangements.
