- Clifford "Ike" Harness
The funeral of Clifford "Ike" Harness, 74, of 1700 N. School St., Normal, retired electrician and amateur radio operator, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Brady Funeral Home, Bloomington. The Rev. Fred Belcher will officiate. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Harness, a McLean County native, died at 4:26 a.m. Monday (March 5, 1990) at St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
He was born May 28, 1915, at Cooksville, a son of Isaac B. and Margaret A. Harness. He married Mary Dunn Spillman Nov. 9, 1963, at Galesburg. She died Oct. 6, 1985.
Survivors include two sons, Rodney Spillman, Minonk, and Edward Spillman, 205 W. Emerson St., Bloomington; one daughter, Liz Giarette, 1700 N. School St., Normal; two brothers, Bill, 1607 S. Center St., Bloomington, and Harry, Donalsonville, Ga.; and three grandchildren.
Mr. Harness was an electrician for many years at Illinois State University and a 30-year member of Local 197 of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
In the early days of radio, Mr. Harness operated a radio station on Sunday afternoons at the Colonial Theater in Colfax. He continued his interest in radio as an amateur operator.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
