- Roberta E. Bates Cundiff, 101 years 10 months and 29 days of age, departed this life to be with the Lord on Monday, November 30th, 2020 at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
Roberta was born in Somerset, Kentucky on Wednesday, January 1st, 1919, daughter of the late William and Olga Placke Bates. She had lived in Dayton, Ohio for the past ten years. Roberta was a long-time member of Rock Lick Baptist Church in Somerset, Kentucky.
Roberta was survived by two daughters, Deloris Harter and Bettie Jo Detrick, both of Dayton, Ohio; one son, Lewis Joseph Cundiff, Jr. of Somerset, Kentucky; two brothers, Edward Bates of Louisville, Kentucky and Johnny (and Freeda) Bates of Waterview, Florida; two sisters, Dorothy Gilliam and Edna Mae Compton, both of Somerset, Kentucky; and a host of other relatives and friends who mourn her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Bates, who departed this life on July 3rd, 1958 and Olga Bates, who departed this life on February 22nd, 1966; her loving husband, Lewis Joseph “Joe” Cundiff ,Sr., who departed this life on December 21st, 2004; five brothers, Harold Bates, Jeff Bates, William “Short” Bates, Alton Bates, and Robert Bates; and four sisters, Effie Callahan, Ola Jasper, Leta Opal Bobbitt, and Frances Marie Sowder.
Private services were held in the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.
Burial followed in the Rock Lick Baptist Church Cemetery in Pulaski County, Kentucky.
