- NEW CASTLE, Ind.--William C. (Bill) Carper, 39, 1606 I Ave., died Monday in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Indianapolis, after an illness of several months.
He was born in Mount Vernon, Ohio, and had lived in New Castle for 10 years. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
He was a Marine veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked for several trucking companies, including Stoops Trucking in Daleville, Cedar Rapids Steel Transport of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Schnadig Corp. in Rushville.
Surviving are his wife of 14 years, Wanda Ridings Carper; a daughter, Angela Dawn, and a son, Jon, both at home; his father, William B. Carper, Fredericktown, Ohio; his mother and stepfather, Anna Lane and William Altom, Dunreith; a sister, Carolyn Sue (Mrs. Norman) Harvey, Columbus, Ohio; two half-sisters, Debbie (Mrs. Bob) Taylor, New Castle, and Brenda Altom, Dunrieth; two half-brothers, Mike Altom, Spiceland, and Terry Altom, Dunreith; a stepsister, Sharon (Mrs. Rex) Oberhelman, Fairmount, Minn.; two stepbrothers, Jon Altom, Norfolk, Va., and William H. Altom, New Castle, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Grace Baptist Church, 2510 Grand Ave., with Rev. Denny Neal officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Calling hours are 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Macer-Hall-Pasco Funeral Home and an hour before services Friday at the church.
