- Robert E. Johnston, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 25, 2013. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Julia Williams Johnston; parents, Earle and Nell Johnston; and brother, William Johnston. Bob is survived by his wife, Carol Johnston; children, Linda Hogan and son- in-law, Ron Hogan; Ryne Johnston and daughter-in-law, Frances Johnston; step daughters, Susan Rhodes and husband, Mike, Kirsten Cooper and husband, Jeff; grandchildren, Quinn Chalkley and wife, Allison and Bryce Chalkley; step grandchildren, Cole Hogan, Meredith Rhodes, Sydney Rhodes, Caleb Cooper, Caitlyn Cooper and Caroline Cooper. Bob served in the United States Army during WW II, stationed in Italy. He was a past president of Hidden Valley Country Club and served on various committees, including chairman of the golf committee. He retired as Vice President of Sales at Webster Brick Co. Bob was a long time former member of Grandin Court Baptist Church and was a Sunday school teacher for the Disciples Class. He later became a member of Troutville Baptist Church where he taught the T.E.L. Sunday School Class. Bob was an avid golfer and gardener. A special thank you to Dr. Nobbee, Dr. Fintel, Dr. Schmidt, Gentiva, Good Samaritan Hospice and Generation Solutions. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 10-11 am at Troutville Baptist Church, memorial service following with Rev. Dr. Kevin Meadows officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's memory to Troutville Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. 309, Troutville, Va. 24175.
