The Rev. H. Melvin Wampler, 84, of St. Peters, Mo., formerly of the Bronx, N.Y., and Groseclose, (Virginia) died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Dardene Presbyterian Church, Dardene, Mo. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 30, at 8 p.m. at Lindsey Funeral Home, Rural Retreat. Burial will be held Friday, Dec. 31, 11 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Groseclose.
A minister for more than 50 years, he was a past member of "Who's Who in America in the East." He was a former president of the Bronx Protestant Council and vice-president of the New York City Protestant Council. He pastored the Pilgrim United Church of Christ in the Bronx, N.Y., for 39 years and was pastor emeritus.
He is survived by his wife, Emily Speer Wampler of St. Peters, Mo.; one son and daughter-in-law, Stanley E. and Raphaela Vazquez Wampler of St. Peters, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Matthew F. and Jessica L. Wampler, both of St. Peters, Mo.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindsey Funeral Home, Rural Retreat.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church or synagogue of the donor's choice.
Stygar Mid Rivers Funeral Home in St. Charles, Mo. and the Lindsey Funeral Home in Rural Retreat are in charge of the arrangements.
