Mary I. Spaulding
May 25, 1941 – March 13, 2015
Mary Ida (Garrett) Spaulding, 73, of Monroe, passed away March 13, 2015 at SSIHM Health Care Center surrounded by her loving family.
Friends may call from 1 until services at 5 p.m. Sunday March 15, 2015. Rev. Roy Southerland, pastor of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church, will officiate. Cremation will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
Mary was born May 25, 1941 in Portsmouth, Virginia. She was the daughter of Ernest and Kathleen (Speaks) Garrett of Pennington Gap, Virginia.
In 1966, Mary moved to Monroe where she raised her four boys. She spent many years watching their sporting events and other activities.
Mary worked for 24 years as a bus driver for Lake Erie Bus Company, keeping a close friendship with her valued co-workers after her retirement. Mary met Neal Spaulding while working at Lake Erie Transit, they married in April 1984 and spent more than 30 years together.
Mary was an active member of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and helped deliver meals to those who needed them. She was also a very good cook.
In addition to her love for her family, Mary had a love for her friends. She could find the good in everyone and always had a kind word for others.
She is survived by her husband, Neal of Monroe; three sons, Randy (Denise) Tevepaugh of Chagrin Falls, OH, Michael Tevepaugh of North Carolina and Richard Tevepaugh of Newport, MI; five step sons, James Spaulding, Timothy (Ann) Spaulding, Thomas (Janell) Spaulding, John (Susan) Spaulding and David Spaulding; three sisters, Audrey (Preston) Hall , Nora (Raymond) Buettner and Betty Lytle; grandchildren Connie, Shawn, Josh, Ryan, Brett, Mariah, Kristi, Richard and Maria; thirteen step grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister Arlene Gidner; brother-in-law, Melvin Lytle and her son Danny Tevepaugh.
