  	M. Lucille Mercer "Lucille", died on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, in Winston - Salem, N.C. She was born on March 21, 1923, in Nebo, Va., to William S. Mercer and Delia A. Kitts. She was preceded in death by her four siblings, William "Bill", Luther "Boots", Vivian "Ruth", and Forest. Lucille graduated from Rural Retreat High School and earned a degree in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University. Lucille was known for her sassy, lively wit, artistic flair and a penchant for nature, animals and children. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at Rosewood Memorial Park, Rural Retreat, Va.
