- LeRoy, Richard Lovell
Age 87, of Middletown, OH died May 3, 2007 at Middletown Regional Hospital. Richard (Dick) LeRoy was born February 22, 1920 to Clemens LeRoy and Margaret (Perry) LeRoy at Covington, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Leonard Jack, Daniel Edwin, and Freida Sharon Lanham. Richard LeRoy was a research chemist, retiring from Armco Research in 1982. He moved his family from Ashland, KY to Middletown because of an Armco transfer in 1952. He was an outstanding athlete in high school (Russell High School, Russell KY) and college, attending Union College at Barbourville, KY on a basketball scholarship. He continued his interest in athletics through officiating high school basketball for over 30 years in Kentucky and the Middletown area. Richard was a WWII Navy Veteran, member Lincoln Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons, past president and long time member of Kiwanis, 20 year volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Middletown. Richard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Freida K.(Churchill) LeRoy, who he married on May 19, 1940 at Lafollette, Tennessee; two sons, William C. (Marie) of Lima, OH and Richard C. (Donna) of Carlisle, OH; four grandchildren, William Christopher (Carol) of Plain City, OH, Leslie (Mark) Medice of Pittsburgh, PA, Rebecca (Patrick) O'Connell of Carlisle, OH, Cynthia (Wendel) Donathan of Sommerville, OH, 10 great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff of Middletown Regional Hospital and especially the nurses of the CCU unit. Dick LeRoy never met a stranger, never spoke ill of anyone, always gave people the benefit of the doubt, and was caring and compassionate. But, above all he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to all who knew him. He was indeed a gentleman in the truest sense.
