- PENNINGTON GAP, Va. -- Odie Ridings, 71, Route 2, Woodway community, Pennington Gap, Va., died Monday (July 28, 1998), at Lonesome Pine Hospital, Big Stone Gap, Va.
Born in Leona Mines, Va., he was a lifelong resident of Lee County, Va., and was of the Baptist faith.
He was a retired coal miner and member of the United Mine Workers of America St. Charles Local No. 8761.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Pennington Gap VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Henderson and Rachel Shelton Ridings; eight brothers, Luther, Willie, Clifford, Andrew, Julis, Claude, James and Charles Ridings; one sister, Ceonia Ridings; one son, Tommy Ridings; and one great-grandchild, Timmy Gibson.
Surviving are his wife, Maude Ridings, of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Judy Ridings, Dot, Va., Roger and Pat Ridings, Union, S.C., and Greg and Sandra Ridings, Thomaston, Ga.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Thelma Ridings, of the home, and Jan and Bill Reinholtz, Roanoke, Va.; 16 grandchildren, Michael and Willi Reinholtz, Rhonda and Tommy Ridings, Greg Allen and Joshua Ridings, Kimberly Ridings Harless, Yvonne Ridings, Bridgett, Misty and Damon Ridings, Chris Collins, Preston and Denny Hobbs, Tim Gibson and Tina Winzenried; nine great-grandchildren, Camdon and Jannah Gibson, Joseph Winzeried, Ashley Harless, Amber Collins, Christy Hobbs, Joshua and Gini Caudill and Jonathan Collins; 10 stepgrandchildren; one brother, Richard Ridings, Noblesville, Ind.; and one sister, Clides Cloud, Dryden, Va.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Province Funeral Home, Pennington Gap, Va.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Clyde Hester officiating.
Burial will follow at Lee Memorial Gardens, Woodway, Va.
Pallbearers will be the grandchildren, Tommy Ridings, Michael Reinholtz, Willi Reinholtz, Damon Ridings, Tim Gibson, Chris Collins, Tim Harless, Preston Hobbs and Denny Hobbs.
