    Lorene Bates Sears, 90 years of age, of the Grundy community, departed this life on Monday, March 1st, 2010 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.

    Lorene was born on January 12th, 1920 in Pulaski County, Kentucky, daughter of Escol Bates and Ada Simpson Bates. She was a homemaker and a salesperson for J.C. Penny for many years. Lorene was a member of the Rock Lick Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

    Lorene was survived by one sister, Minrose Bray of Cincinnati, Ohio; one niece, Debbie (and Tom) Bray of Cincinnati, Ohio; a cousin, Christine Erp of Somerset, Kentucky; and lifelong friends, Carol Roman, Larry Roman, Larry III "Little Larry"(and wife, Tonya) Roman and their daughter, Sierra, all of Atlanta, Georgia; and a host of other family and friends who mourn her passing.

    Preceding her in death were her parents, Escol Bates, who departed this life on May 12th, 1927 and Ada Bates, who departed this life on October 30th, 1977; her husband, Harlan Sears, whom she married on May 4th, 1940 in Somerset, Kentucky and who departed this life on January 15th, 1998; one son, Ronald Sears; one brother, Oscar Bates; and a niece Margaret Ann Edington.

    Visitations were held on Thursday, March 4th, 2010 from 10;00 a.m until 12:00 noon at the Lake Cumberland Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.

    Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 4th, 2010 at 12:00 noon in the Chapel of the Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. David Evans officiating.

    Burial followed in the Rock Lick Cemetery in Pulaski County, Kentucky.
