Virginia B. Feathers
Virginia Brumit Feathers, 95, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, January 15, 2010, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home.
A native of Washington County, Va., she was a daughter of the late Robert Alexander and Mayme Ryden Brumit.
Mrs. Feathers had lived in Carter County for a number of years. She was a 1933 graduate of Elizabethton High School and a member of the first class of Practical Nursing given by the Vocational School of Johnson City, receiving her license in 1959. She was an employee of Johnson City Memorial Hospital for 13 years and was a former pink lady at Carter County Memorial Hospital and Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
Mrs Feathers was a member of Range Community Christian Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley James Feathers, in 1983; a sister, Ruth Brumit Owens; and three brothers, Harold Ryden Brumit, Sam A. Brumit and Paul Lewis Brumit.
Survivors include a sister-inlaw, Bonnie Williams Brumit, Elizabethton; her cousins, June Davis, Betty Jo and Wallace Barrett and Mary Frances Morrell; several nieces and nephews; and her special friends, Mary Lunceford and Debbie Miller.
Graveside services for Mrs. Feathers will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, January 18, in the Morning View Cemetery, Bluff City, with Samuel Brumit, minister, officiating. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Monday, will be Devin Pierson, Hunter Pierson, Clint Mays, Jerry Carr, Gary Townsend and Matthew Townsend. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Calloway, R.J. Hart, Wayne Smith and Jim Adams. The family would like to
express a special "thank you" to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Feathers to the Range Community Christian Church. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Monday to go to the cemetery. Condolences to the Feathers family may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net. HICKORY Geraldine "Gerry" Carrier Coleman, 85, of Hickory, passed away Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011.

Born in Elizabethton, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Logan Carrier and Gertrude Jones Carrier.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Aubrey Coleman, and a son, Richard Logan "Dickie" Coleman.

Mrs. Coleman was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hickory. She enjoyed needlepoint, tennis and playing bridge. A loyal friend, her greatest pride was in being a great wife and mother.

She is survived by a son, Robert Edward Coleman, of Charlotte.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the General Fund of the First United Methodist Church, 311 Third Ave. NE, Hickory, NC. Bass-Smith Funeral Home is serving the family of Geraldine "Gerry" Carrier Coleman.

Robert E. Johnston, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 25, 2013. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Julia Williams Johnston; parents, Earle and Nell Johnston; and brother, William Johnston. Bob is survived by his wife, Carol Johnston; children, Linda Hogan and son- in-law, Ron Hogan; Ryne Johnston and daughter-in-law, Frances Johnston; step daughters, Susan Rhodes and husband, Mike, Kirsten Cooper and husband, Jeff; grandchildren, Quinn Chalkley and wife, Allison and Bryce Chalkley; step grandchildren, Cole Hogan, Meredith Rhodes, Sydney Rhodes, Caleb Cooper, Caitlyn Cooper and Caroline Cooper. Bob served in the United States Army during WW II, stationed in Italy. He was a past president of Hidden Valley Country Club and served on various committees, including chairman of the golf committee. He retired as Vice President of Sales at Webster Brick Co. Bob was a long time former member of Grandin Court Baptist Church and was a Sunday school teacher for the Disciples Class. He later became a member of Troutville Baptist Church where he taught the T.E.L. Sunday School Class. Bob was an avid golfer and gardener. A special thank you to Dr. Nobbee, Dr. Fintel, Dr. Schmidt, Gentiva, Good Samaritan Hospice and Generation Solutions. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 10-11 am at Troutville Baptist Church, memorial service following with Rev. Dr. Kevin Meadows officiating.
