    MAYSVILLE | Virginia Kegley Carpenter, 94, a resident ofAberdeen, Ohio, formerly of Maysville, passed away Friday, Jan. 6,2012, at her home with her family at her side.
    Mrs. Carpenter was born in Lewis County, on April 24, 1917, thedaughter of the late George Henry and Anna Elliott Kegley.
    She was the devoted wife of the late Deward M. Carpenter.
    She is survived by her three children, Charlotte (Richard) Allenof Aberdeen, Shirley (Doug) White of Manchester, Ohio, and Randy(Diana) Mason of Aberdeen. She is also survived by sixgrandchildren, Kelly (Russ) Ward of Morehead, Jenny (Joel) Higginsof Warsaw, Ind., Stephen (Jennifer) White of Manchester, DanielMason and Ryan Mason of Cincinnati, Eric Mason of Aberdeen; andseven great-grandchildren. Survivors also include a sister, BettyJewel Crump of Aberdeen; and a brother, Clarence Kegley ofRussellville, Ohio, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
    Preceding her in death were two sisters, Vada Rigdon and DorothyJester; and four brothers, Willard, Clyde, Ora and ElwoodKegley.
    Mrs. Carpenter was one of the oldest surviving active members ofthe Central Baptist Church which she joined in 1936. There sheserved many years caring for the young children in the churchnursery. Mrs. Carpenter's roots were always important to her. Shekept those roots deeply grounded by maintaining the "home place" inLewis County where the Kegleys and their descendents from far andwide gather on Labor Day weekend to renew family ties.
    Services for Virginia Carpenter will be held Tuesday, Jan. 10,2012, at 11 a.m., at the Central Baptist Church with Rev. RobertDonovan officiating, assisted by Rev. Mark Powell.
    Burial will follow in the Maysville Cemetery.
    Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, 437 CentralAvenue, Maysville, KY 41056 or to Hospice of Hope, 909 KentonStation Road, Maysville, KY 41056.
    Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. today, Monday, Jan. 9, 2011, at theKnox and Brothers Funeral Home.
