    Mrs. Merle Gunter, age 91, of the Mossy Grove community, passed away Monday, May 25, 2020, at the home of her daughter. Merle was born in Jonesville, VA to John and Jesse Coffman. She married Elwood Gunter of Lancing, and together they owned and operated Gunters Grocery in the Petros community for many years. Merle was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wartburg.

    She was preceded in death by her husband: Elwood Gunter. Her parents, John and Jesse Coffman. And three brothers: Ben, Roscoe, and Chester Coffman.

    She is survived by her daughter: Linda Gail Bowling of Rockwood. Her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Nita Gunter of Mossy Grove. Two sisters: Dorothy Englelauf of Eatonton, Georgia and Brenda Ashburn of Staunton, Illinois. Three grandchildren, six great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Post 9582 in Vandalia. In his younger years, Chester was an avid baseball and basketball player. He later enjoyed watching sports and game shows and enjoyed gardening and playing euchre. He is survived by his wife of 62 years: Carolyn (Wireman) Coffman, children: Debbie (Coffman) Hayes of Potsdam, Vanessa Gail (Jamie) McIntosh of KY, Dean Hayes of Tipp City, grandchildren: Brittany (Daniel) Bojorquez of Dayton, Koty Hollon of KY, sisters: Merle Gunter of TN, Dot Engelauf of GA, Brenda Ashburn of IL, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: John Henry and Jessie (Hite) Coffman and brothers: Marion Benjamin Coffman #42351043 and Roscoe Hite Coffman #28931336. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the V.F.W. Post 9582 (4170 Old Springfield Road, Vandalia) with Pastor Pam Hitchcock officiating.     Peter L. Coffman, 63, passed away on Feb. 2, 2021 in Mt. Dora. Fla. He was born in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Roscoe Coffman and Treva Coffman Hanselmam (née Holmes). Besides his parents, Peter is predeceased by a brother, David. He is survived by sisters Janet Coffman Wilson (Loren), Patricia Coffman Dills (Ray Hicks), Mary Zick (Steve), and brother Rick Coffman (Bob Smith). Several nieces and nephews, family members and friends also survive him. Peter moved to Florida 35 years ago, where he opened and taught dancing. He earned gold status acclaim on a national level. The family will hold a memorial service at a later date in Yellow Springs, Ohio.
