Died:
Ulys 'Doc' Mayes, age 86, of Speedwell, passed away January 4, 2007 at Middlesboro Hospital.

He was a member of Powell Valley Church of Christ and a veteran of WWII. He was preceded in death by parents: Richard and Dana Shelton Mayes; brothers: Sherman, Virgil, Carl and 2 infant brothers; sisters: Ethel Mayes and Nell Marsee.

Survivors include his wife: Lula McNew Mayes; sons: Larry Mayes of Chapel Hill, Nc. and Daryl Mayes of Ringgold, Ga.; sister: Viola Jones of Knoxville; two grandchildren.

Funeral services were Sunday, January 7 at 12:30 p.m. at Reece Valley Chapel with Minister Jim Callahan and Roy McNew officiating. Burial in the McNew Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Damon Price, Ulis Price, William Horton, David Underwood, Wayne McCreary, Wayne McNew. Honorary pallbearers: Charlie Robertson, Albert Chumley, David Robertson and Ernest Shiflet.
