    John Aaron lived in Pocket along the North Fork of the Powell River. His house was on the opposite side of the river from the road and there was no bridge. This river is not really deep or wide in all places but to keep from having to wade it all the time, they used a small boat to get to the house. John was well known for growing watermelons , especially yellow watermelons which were unheard of in that area.

    PENNINGTON GAP, Va. Hubert Hube Coffman, 88, of the Stone Creek community, died Friday (Sept. 3, 1999) at Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.

    He was born in Stone Creek, Va. where he was a resident most of his life.

    He was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMW of A. He was a member of The First Baptist Church in St. Charles, Va.

    He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Coffman; parents, John and Rena Coffman; several brothers and sisters.

    Surviving are one son, Don Coffman, Kingsport; three daughters, Lynda Vaughan, Brandon, Fla., Cathy Napier, Woodway, Va., Evelyn Thomas, Jonesville, Va.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathleen Johnson, Odessa, Texas.

    Calling hours are from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at Province Funeral Home in Pennington Gap.

    Services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. today in the Sanctuary of the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Robbins officiating.

    Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, Va.

    Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1 p.m. for the services.

    ODESSA Kathleen Johnson, 79, of Odessa died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at her residence. She was born July 3, 1923, in Lea County, Va., to John and Rena Coffman. She married Dudley Johnson Jr. pm July 16, 1955, in Lovington, N.M. They moved to Odessa in 1955.
    Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, in the Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Burial will follow at Ector County Cemetery.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Dudley Johnson Jr., her parents, five sisters, and three brothers.
    She was a member of Second Baptist Church and had worked for TG&Y Family Store as a salesclerk.
    Pallbearers will be Bobby Case, John Addington, Lance White, Ross White, Jim White and Tate Smith.
    She is survived by her daughters, Janis Smith and husband Kelton, and Detra White and husband Jack, all of Odessa; grandsons, Lance White, Ross White, Tate Smith and Skyler Smith, all of Odessa; granddaughter, Rachel White of Odessa; sister-in-law, Joyce Green and husband Rick of Tulsa, Okla. brother-in-law, Cleo Johnson and wife Wanda of Durant, Okla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    A special thanks to the entire staff of Home Hospice.

He passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati, OH. He was a loving father, brother and friend that was loved dearly and will be sincerely missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Minnie Carter and one sister, Joanne Doss.

    He is survived by his loving ex-wife, Bobbie Coffman of Norwood, OH, one son, Michael Coffman and wife Connie of Norwood, OH. Granddaughter, Michia Thiessen and husband Joe, Three great grandchildren, Billy, Cole, and Sarah of Dover, Delaware. One daughter, Robin Sand and husband Scott of Okeana, OH, grandaughter, Jillian Powers and husband Kevin, two great grandchildren,Payton and Autumn of West Chester, OH. One sister, Gay Anderson and husband Benny of Jonesville, VA, Three brothers, Ray Coffman and wife Vivian of Cincinnati, OH, Larry Carter and wife Dora of Pennington Gap, VA, Gene Carter and wife Glenna of Huntsville, AL, and many nieces nephews and close friends. Visitation will be from 11 until 1:00 p. m. Saturday, January 22, at Sturgill Funeral Home in Pennington Gap, VA.     Peggy is survived by her daughter, Sue (Tom) Davis of Venice, Florida; sisters, Betty Smallwood of Spring Valley, Ohio, Lois Ann Sheriden of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Wilma Johnson of Miamisburg, Ohio; a brother, Ronnie Barnett of Clarkville, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Tom (Alison) Davis, Marc (Jordan) Davis, and Steve (Sarah) Davis; and nine great-grandchildren.

    Delores Ann Eavey, age 68, of Conowingo, MD, passed away on June 19, 2020. She was born on August 8, 1951 in Lynch, KY to the late Ralph Phillips and Dorothy (Lockhart) Phillips.

    Delores worked for Conowingo Elementary School for 28 years as a secretary, and was a lifetime member of 30 years at Pleasant View Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time in her garden and loved being outdoors.

    Delores loved going to the beach, eating crabs, and spending time with her grandchildren. She will always be known for her great cooking and will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

    Delores is survived by her husband, Bill Eavey of Conowingo, MD; son, Ronnie Graybeal and his wife, Jennifer of Mountain Top, PA; two daughters: Teresa Miller and her husband, Wendell of Friendship, NY and Fallon Eavey of Conowingo, MD; three sisters, Donna Brown of Warwick, MD; Linda Johnson of Bartow, FL; and Karen Stutelberg of Perryville, MD; twenty-four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Delores was preceded in death by her parents.

    A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at 7pm – 9pm at Pleasant View Baptist Church, 150 Downin Lane Port Deposit, MD 21904.

    A celebration of Delores's life will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 11am at Pleasant View Baptist Church where friends and family may begin visiting at 10am.

    Burial will follow at Sam's Creek Cemetery, New Windsor, MD 21776. Contributions may be made payable to Pleasant View Baptist Church and send in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 248 Rising Sun, MD 21911.
