    Died:
    Don Hopkins, 54, of Jonesville, Virginia, passed away Friday (January 30, 2009) at the Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee.

    He was a former employee of Westmoreland Coal Company and Cedar Hill Country Club. Don was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed trading stories with his buddies. He was happiest in the great outdoors surrounded by God’s creation.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. and Bonnie Newman Hopkins.

    Surviving are:

    One daughter: Erin Johnson and husband, Edgar of Dryden, Virginia

    One son: William Hopkins of Jonesville, Virginia

    Two grandchildren: Isaac and Sarah Johnson

    One brother: Ken Hopkins and wife, Sue of Kingsport, Tennessee

    One sister: Patricia White and husband, Stephen of South Easton, Massachusetts

    One niece: Kimberly Maynor and family of Kingsport, Tennessee

    One nephew: Mitch Hopkins of Winston Salem, North Carolina

    The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 4, 2009) at the Arney-Mullins Funeral Home in Jonesville, Virginia.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 4, 2009)in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dempsie Mullins officiating.

    Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Thompson Settlement Cemetery in Jonesville, Virginia. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at the time of service.

    The family would like to thank Dr. Shipstone and staff at Kingsport Hematology and Oncology. We also thank the staff of W-3 Oncology at Wilcox Hall and especially the nurses of W-3 who cared and loved Don like a family member.
