    PENNINGTON GAP, Va. Robert Moore, 68, died Sunday (Sept. 24, 2000) at Lee County Community Hospital.

    Born in St. Charles, Va., he had been a resident of Lee County, Va. most of his life. He was a retired minister and attended Johnson Bible College in Knoxville.

    He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He entered the U.S. Army in 1949. At the beginning of the Korean War in June of 1950 he was stationed in Japan and served with the 21st Infantry Regiment, the 24th Infantry Division.

    Mr. Moores Regiment was the first Army unit sent to Korea at the start of the war. He served in Korea until April, 1951, where he served in four major campaigns against the communist North Koreans and Chinese.

    Mr. Moore was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Presidential Citation, Korean Service Medal with three stars, National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal for service in the Korean War.

    He was a member of Galilee Christian Church in Blackwater, Va.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Jody and Myrtle Coffman Moore; two brothers, Marshall and Royce Moore; two sisters, Edith McNutt and Dorothy Johns.

    Surviving are two sons, Jody Moore, Pennington Gap, Va., and Jon Moore, Wallens Creek, Va.; one daughter, Opheia Ratliff, Pennington Gap, Va.; five grandchildren; one brother, Jody N. Moore, Marion, Ind.; one sister, Iva Williams, Gas City, Ind.

    Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, Va. with the Rev. Jim Belcher officiating.

    Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. for the service.

    Province Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
