    WHITE HALL - Lenora SHADE, 88, of White Hall died Thursday at White Hall Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home, White Hall, and burial will be in White Hall Cemetery. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Stella Nettles of Greenfield and Mrs. Maude Kirgan of Metropolis; three sisters, Mrs. Maude Bateman and Mrs. Mary Powell, both of White Hall, Mrs. Elsie Geers of Carrollton; six brothers, Edgar, John, Robert and Ward Ridings, all of White Hall, Gene Ridings of Meredosia and Claude Ridings of California; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.

    Elsie was born in White Hall,IL to Tom and Kate Tatman Ridings on April 3, 1908. She enjoyed elementary teaching for 35 years. Marriage to Anthony J. Geers was Aug. 28, 1931. He preceded her in death in 1972. She was also pre-deceased by seven brothers, Claude, Jesse, Edgar, Howard, Ward, Robert, John and Gene; and four sisters, Lenora Noblet, Nell Nash, Maude Bateman and Mary Powell.

    Visitation will be 1 p.m. Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton,IL. Graveside service and burial will be 2 p.m. at St. John's Cemetery, Carrollton, IL.

    Gene T. "Jack" Ridings

    Gene T. "Jack" Ridings, age 94, of Meredosia, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 1, 2006 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born Nov. 3, 1911 near White Hall, the son of Tom C. and Sarah C. Tatman Ridings.

    He is survived by one sister, Elsie Geers of White Hall and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by seven brothers, John, Edgar, Jesse, Howard, Claude Ward and Pat Ridings and four sisters, Nell Nash, Nora Noblet, Maude Bateman and Mary Powell.

    Mr. Ridings graduated from White Hall High School in 1932. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II on the Philippine Islands. He was captured by the Japanese on April 12, 1942 and held prisoner until Sept. 13, 1945 during which he survived the Bataan Death March. After he got out of the service he attended Moler Barber College and barbered in several area towns for many years and at the State Hospital in Jacksonville for over 20 years. He was an active member of the Bluffs Methodist Church. He was also a member of the White Hall American Legion Post #70 for more than 50 years. His hobby was carving wooden chains and made them to give to his friends.

    Funeral services for Jack Ridings were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall with Rev. Wayne Hammitt officiating and Rev. Mark Doane assisting. Keyboardist Jean Coates sang "In The Garden" and "Old Rugged Cross". Pallbearers were Jim Ridings, Bob Ridings, David Ridings, Brock Ridings, Neal Gillingham and Glen Berghaus. Honorary pallbearers were Alfred Bateman and Harvey Berghaus. Burial was at the White Hall Cemetery.

    Mrs. Mary L. Powell, 88, of White Hall died early Thursday morning, June 13, 2002, at the White Hall Multicare Center.

    She was born Aug. 24, 1913, in White Hall, the daughter of Tom C. and Sarah Catherine (Tatman) Ridings. She married Earl E. Powell Aug. 28, 1945, and he died April 12, 1974.

    She is survived by two brothers, John Ridings of White Hall and Jack Ridings of Meredosia and a sister, Elsie Geers of Carrollton.

    Preceding her in death were seven brothers, Charles Ridings, Jesse Ridings, Edgar Ridings, Claude Ridings, Robert Ridings, Howard Ridings and Ward Ridings; and four sisters, Lendra Shade, Nell Nash, Maude Bateman and Lucy Ridings.

    Mrs. Powell and her husband were cottage parents at the Soldiers and Sailors Children's Home in Normal for many years. In addition, she worked at the White Hall Golf Club for many years.

    Friends called from 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White
    Hall, until funeral services at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rex Brand officiating. Organist was Jean Coates.

    Casketbearers were Jim Ridings, Bob Ridings, Jim Bateman, Al Bateman, David Ridings and Buell Powell. Honorary bearers were James L. Guis and Dick Ridings. Burial was at the White Hall Cemetery.

    James T. Ridings, 73, of White Hall, passed away Saturday, Oct, 18, 2008, at his residence. Born in White Hall on Feb. 19, 1935, he was the son of the late Jesse Thomas and Blanche L. Cain Ridings. On June 7, 1958, he married the former Helen Jean Capps and she survives.

    Also surviving are a son, Bob (companion, Wendy) Ridings of White Hall; a daughter, Sarah (husband, Eric) Heikes of Petersburg; three grandchildren, Jessica Ridings of Roodhouse and Katie and Will Heikes of Petersburg; a niece, Jane Ganyard of Dahlonega, Ga.; an aunt, Elsie Geers of White Hall; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Edward Ridings.

    Mr. Ridings attended Maple Grove Country Grade School, was a graduate of White Hall High School class of 1952 and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1957-1963. He was an honorary member of the White Hall Lions Club. He was former member of the North Greene School Board. Jim built many unique items including the White Hall City Council desk, a trophy case for North Greene High School and a showcase for Boyd Memorial Hospital. He had a tremendous gift for woodworking. He restored many antique pieces of furniture in the community. He enjoyed working with livestock and attending livestock sales at Woodson, attending lunches with his buddies and "loafing" at the White Hall F.S. with his friends.

    Services were entrusted to Airsman-Hires Funeral Home of White Hall, Illinois.
