    DIES IN PENNINGTON HOSPITAL FROM INJURIES HE RECEIVED WHEN STRUCK BY CCC TRUCK NEAR BALD ROCK CAMP
    Lewis Hale, 61 years old, farmer of Bald Rock, died at 12:30 o'clock this morning at the Pennington Hospital from injuries received at 1:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon when he was struck by a CCC truck near the Bald Rock Camp, F-15.
    Both of his legs were broken above the knees and he received internal injuries and major bruising.
    His body was removed to the Rawlings Funeral Home for burial preparations tomorrow.
    Ed Hammond, 20 years old, of Delta, Wayne County, driver of the truck told ambulance attendants that Mr. Hale stepped directly into the path of the motor and that he could not avoid striking him.
    J.J. Avent, assistant improvements superintendent, and A.S. Anderson, assistant forest supervisor, both of the Winchester office of the U.S. Forestry Service of the Cumberland National Forest are here to investigate the accident.
    Mr. Hale is the son of the late Millard Hale and a grandson of the late Wes Hale.
    His wife, Mrs. Vira Arnold Hale, who survives him, is the daughter of J.H. Arnold and is postmaster at Bald Rock. He also leaves several children.

    LAST RITES FOR LEWIS HALE
    LARGE CROWDS FROM LONDON AND CORBIN AT POYTNER'S CHAPEL FRIDAY TO HONOR MEMORY
    Funeral services for Lewis Hale, who died last Thursday, Dec. 29, from injuries received the Tuesday before when struck by a CCC truck near his home at Bald Rock, were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Poytner's Chapel. Revs Bonnie Hale and John Stewart were in charge of the service which were attended by a very large crowd of people, including large delegations of friends from London and Corbin. Interment was in the church cemetery by the Rawlings Funeral Home.
    The pallbearers were W.N. Scoville, Chester Scoville, John Dillion, Harve Steele, Berry Little, and C.C. Poytner, all of London.
    Mr. Hale was born at Bald Rock on June 16, 1887, a son of Millard and Ellen Butcher Hale, and spent all of his life in that section where he was a leading farmer and for some time postmaster and was sixty-one years, six months and fifteen days old at the time of his death.
    He was married July 8, 1902 to Miss Vira Arnold, daughter of J. H. Arnold, also of Bald Rock, who survives him.
    Also surviving are eight children, three daughters and five sons:
    Mrs. Emory Johnson of London and Mrs. Edward Clark and Mrs. Edgar Clark of Bald Rock;
    and Messrs Ted Hale of Corbin, and Tilford, Wesley, Bev, and Warren Hale, all of Bald Rock.
    Another son, Ernest, died in infancy.
    Also surviving aer seventeen grandchildren and three sisters and one brother:
    Mrs. Mack Master and Mrs. Cephus Earls, of Corbin;
    Mrs. Kate Griffin, of London Route 1 and Mr. Willie Hale of London Route 1.
    Mr. Hale was a member of the Christian church and always interested in the welfare of all the people about him and counted his friends by his acquaintances and will be sadly missed by the entire community.
    Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Hale or Louisville, were here for the funeral.

    HAMMONS PLACED UNDER 3,000 BOND
    Appearing before Magistrate Carter Wilder, acting county judge, Ed Hammons, 20 years old, of Delta, Wayne county, charged with willful murder in connection with the death of Lewis Hale, waived the case befoer the grand jury and was placed under bond of $3,000, in default of which he was committed to the Laurel county jail.
    Hale was fatally injured last week when he was struck by a CCC truck, driven by Hammonds, near the Hale home in Bald Rock.
    Hammonds did not make a statement concerning the accident before Magistrate Wilder.
