    Mildred Louese (High) Sybert, was born February 3, 1923 in Great Falls, Montana the daughter of Frank J. and Grace M (Ridings) High.

    She graduated from D.C.H.S. with the class of 1942. On February 21, 1943 Mildred married Laurence Sybert. He preceded her in death.

    Mildred was a member of New Basel Church serving as the youth choir director when her children were young. She was also a member of the Sweet Adeline’s, and volunteered with 4-H. Mildred was also a seamstress and enjoyed square dancing and played the piano at Village Manor until recently. But above all else, Mildred was a KU fan especially basketball. When KU was playing it was known to all that she did not accept phone calls and didn’t want to be bothered.

    Mildred lived near Talmage and then Elmo and worked for Alco and the ASCS office and was a homemaker.

    Survivors include her son Arlen (Laurie) Sybert of Savannah, Tennessee; Linda (Bill) VerBrugge of Aurora, Colorado, Lila (Charlie) Watson of Frametown, West Virginia, Nancy Hoolehan (Ed) of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan; 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Grace High; brothers Lessel High and Thaine High; granddaughter Cassondra Sybert, sisters-in-law Irene High, Vivian High, and Ruth Sybert.

    Mildred passed away Monday, November 13, 2017 at Village Manor in Abilene at the age of 94. Services will be in the spring with her final resting place in the Prairie Mound Cemetery near Solomon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elsie Brooks Cancer Fund or to the organization of the donor’s choice and may be sent in care of the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd, Abilene, Kansas 67410.
