DR. JAMES T. HALE DEAD
On Tuesday, April 22, 1924, the death angel came and took from us our loving father, Dr. James T. Hale, aged 76 years, 25 days. He was born and reared on Blackwater, Laurel County, KY, and was first united in marriage to Mahala Sasser and from this union there were born one son and two daughters. After her death he was again united in marriage to Elizabeth McFadden, and ten children were born to the union, three of whom died in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Mahala Ledington, who preceded him to the grave ten years ago.
Those of his children present at the funeral were Mrs. Ida Walden, Mrs. Susie Burkhart, Mrs. Nelle Mullins and Milford and Rufus Hale. Three sons, Thomas Hale, of Florence, CO; Edward Hale of Council Bluff, IA; and Bolton Hale of Lawton, OK could not be present.
He leaves a wife, three brothers, Frank, Wm., and E. Hale, one sister, Mrs. Dora Baird, all of Blackwater and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his death.
He was first taken ill Nov. 2, 1923 with pneumonia and other troubles, from which he did not fully recover although he was able to go about some and one week before he died he said that God in His mercy had spared his life so he could do his Father's will from then until the end.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday April 23 by Rev. Brock and Hinkle and he was laid to rest in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, there to await the resurrection morn.

Mr. E. Hale, of Medford, Oregon, died July 24, 1950 and funeral rites were held at that place.
He was about 87 years old and is the last survivor of the late J.F.M. Hale.
He was born and spent most of his life at Blackwater, KY but has lived in Oregon for the past 25 years.
He was married Aug. 13, 1884 to Miss Nancy Tuttle, who with four sons survive. They are Joe, Shelver and Robert all of Medford and Atha of Wallawa, Oregon. He also leaves five grandchildren.
One daughter, Mrs. P. Jones, preceded him in death several years ago.

FUNERAL SERVIES FOR MRS. C.R. JARVIS
Funeral services for Mrs. Cimie E. Jarvis, 61 years old, wife of Mr. Chas R. Jarvis, London barber, who died Saturday morning, were held at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the First Baptist church with the Rev. Hardold D. Tallant officiating. Interment followed in the Pilgrims Rest cemetery at Blackwater by the Rawlings Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Albert Brown, Ernest Sutton, Brit Jones, W.G. Estes and S.E. White. Mrs. Jarvis suffered a stroke ten months ago at her home on Long street and has been confined since. Her condition became critical about one month ago.
A native of Laurel county, Mrs. Jarvis was born Oct. 7, 1883, at Blackwater, the daughter of Richard d. and Sarah E. Hale. On Jan. 14, 1909 she was married to Mr. Jarvis and before moving to London twenty-six years ago to make their home, the couple resided in Ft. McPherson, GA, for two years; in Louisville two years and in Youngstown, OH six years.
Mrs. Jarvis was active in all church work and was a member of Mrs. J.K. Lewis' Bible Class. She was a member of the Daughters of America and after the start of World War II, she helped to her utmost in making surgical dressings. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, both of whom are in the service: Otis D. Jarvis, Inkster, MI and Everett R. Jarvis, London.
She also leaves two brothers, Richard D. Hale, Hamilton and Campbell Hale, Blackwater;
seven sisters, Mrs. Laura Sasser, Gray, KY; Mrs. Sallie Rader, Pittsburg; Mrs. Etta Weaver, College Corner, Ohio; Mrs. Susie Hampton, Bloomington, IN; Mrs. Margaret Jarvis, Johnson City, TN; Mrs. Edna Duncan, Bloomington, IN and Mrs. Lucy Bowling, Detroit and four grandchildren.

EDWARD HALE, 50, TAKEN BY DEATH
Edward Hale was born October 16, 1892 at Blackwater, KY, and died January 18, 1943 in a hospital in Cincinnati of ulcer of the stomach. He was 50 years old, three months and two days old at the time of his death. He was the sone of the late James T. Hale and Elizabeth McFadden Hale and is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Susie Burkhart of Bush and Mrs. Neil Mullins of Corbin; also four brothers, Thomas Hale of Florence, CO; D.R. Hale of Lawton, OK; Milford Hale of Blackwater; J.R. Hale of Cane Creek.
He was preceded in death several years ago by two sisters, Mrs. Mahala Ledington and Mrs. Ida Walden, also two brothers and one sister, who died in infancy.
When a young man of nineteen, he went West to seek employment and was employed by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad Company as fireman and engineer at Council Bluffs, Iowa. Having served in this capacity for several years, he volunteered his service to the United States Army in World War No. 1 and was honorably discharged. When this war broke out, he again offered his services, but was refused on account of age and disability. For the past few months he has been employed as guard in defense work in Cincinnati.
Besides immediate famkily, he leaves a number of nieces and nephews, two aunts and two uncles along with either relatives and friends to mourn his death.
His brother, Milford Hale, and brother-in-law, J.W. Mullins of Corbvin, went to Cincinnati and ...

SERVICES HERE FOR J.T. HALE
Funeral services for James Thomas Hale, 85, Denver Colo., who died May 23 in the Old Masons
Home, were conducted at 7 o'clock Friday evening at the home of his son, Roy Hale, at Cold Hill
by the Revs. George Cole and Layton Vanhook.
Masonic rites were held at the grave the following morning at the grave in Pilgrim Rest Cemetery with the House Funeral Home in charge. Officiating were the Revs. Cole and William Stewart.
A Laurel County native, Mr. Hale was born July 2, 1870 at Bush, the son of Dr. J.T. Hale and Mrs. Mahala Sasser Hale. He was married to Cuie Tuttle, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Hale, a retired millwright, had been a resident of Colorado for the last twenty-nine years.
Besides the son, he is survived by five daughters, Mrs. W.H. Greene, London, Route 1; Mrs. J.R. Wilkerson, Junction City, Kansas; T.J. Green, Gadsden, ALA; Mrs. W.L. Clark, Corbin; Mrs. Roy Perry, Whitley City; and nineteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Mrs. Ida Hale Walden was a daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. James Hale, a member of the Baptist church and was beloved by a host of friends.

Surviving are the husband and three children Messrs. Delmos and Delbert, well remembered in London as students in the Sue Bennett College and as the "Walden Twins," and Mrs. Violet Hopper, of Corbin.

Born in Laurel County on July 19, 1877, the son of Franklin and Cinda Sasser Hale, he was married to Drusilla Gross, who with one daughter and two sons survive. They are Mrs. Ida Pennington, Tuttle; Tilman Hale, Marydell; Delfin Hale, Cane Creek; 9 grandchildren. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Nannie Mae Sasser, London, and one brother, Victor Hale, Cane Creek.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Shady Grove Baptist Church of which he was a member. The Revs. Bill George and George Cole were officiating ministers.

She was listed in “Outstanding Personalities of the South” in 1967 and in “Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America” in 1974. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, General “Hawk” Hale; and two brothers, Edsel Hale and Max Hale. Survivors include a daughter, Anita Beryl Mullins and husband, Carson, London; a son, Michael Darrin Hale and wife, Lynn, London; two sisters, Lisle Hale, London, and Janice O’Neal, Zollo, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jerry Mullins and wife, Angie, James Mullins and wife, Constantine, and Dalton Hale, all of London; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at House-Rawlings Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Columbus Hensley and David Lawson officiating. Burial followed in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery on Blackwater Road. Pallbearers were James Mullins, Jerry Mullins, Matt Hale, Robert Ledington, Harold Hughes and Felix Hale. Visitation was from 12:30 p.m. Sunday until the funeral hour.

Elma Lisle Hale, age 91 of London, passed away on Tuesday, April 5 at Laurel Heights Home for the Elderly.

She leaves behind one sister, Janice Hale O’Neal of London; sisters-in-law, Lena and Sue Hale, plus a host of other family and friends to mourn her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor & Allie Ledington Hale and three siblings, Edsel, Max and Ina Faye Hale.

She was a retired computer analyst with Greyhound International of Cleveland, Ohio, member of Central Baptist Church of Louisville, Kentucky Colonel, avid genealogist and a licensed pilot. She loved and adored her family and friends.

Funeral services for Elma Lisle Hale will be conducted on Thursday, April 7 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Bro. Harold Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow in the Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery.

Maxwell C. Hale, 64, 236 Parker Road, London, died Wednesday April 7, 1993 at his residence.
A native of Laurel County, he was born Dec. 22, 1928. The son of Victor and Allie Ledington Hale,
he was a member of the Blackwater Baptist Church, a member of the American Legion and an
Air Force veteran. Mr. Hale is survived by his wife, Sue Cathers Hale; three children, Jennifer Renee and Margaret Allie Hale, and Harold Douglas Hale, all of London; three sistersn, Ina Faye Hale, Lule Hale and Janice O'Neal, all of London. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edsel Hale.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. today, Friday, April 9, at the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel
with Bill Mays officiating.

Burial followed in the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Blackwater.
