    Jewell R. Ridings, 95, of Fellowship House died at 4 30 p m. Saturday at Ephraim McDowell Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was the oldest member of First Christian Church and a carpenter retired from Edmiston Bro. Lumber Co. Born in Somerset on July 21, 1886, he was the son of the late Lewis and Mary Ellis Ridings. Survivors include a brother, James Ridings of Corbin; a sister, Elva McGee of Tampa, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be at 10 a m Tuesday at Stith Funeral Home with Dr. William H. Hammonds officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alvis H. Caldwell, John C. Davis, Laurence McGhee, Terry Griffin, Ernest Speckman and Roy Edmiston. Visitation is at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. today.

Ray served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII, where he received the Bronze Star. He was employed at McCalls/Dayton Press as a pressman for 35 years, where he retired.

    Ray was preceded in death by his Brother, Clarence Keith; Sisters, Elizabeth Marie Warndorf and Dorothy Keith. Ray is survived by his Wife of 68 years, Reparata "Roddy" Keith; Children, Jeannette (Jim) Grantham, of Havana, FL, John (Angela) Keith, of Greenwood, IN and Jeanne (Ted) Hart, of Centerville, OH; Grandchildren, Jennifer, Jimmy, Katie, Amy, Becky, Theresa, Michelle and Luke; Great-grandchildren, Haley, Rachael, Nicholas and Ellen Ashley; Sister, Mary Katherine Harlow; Brother, Richard Keith; and many other relatives & friends.

    Mary Katherine Harlow, age 94 of Kettering, passed away 07/30/2015 in her home. She was born in Somerset, Kentucky on June 27, 1921 to the late John Logan and Lillie May Keith. Katherine was married on November 13, 1942 to the love of her life, Warren Maxwell Harlow of Dayton, Ohio. Katherine was with her future sister-in-law, Roddy Keith, when she first met Warren. Roddy lived next door to Warren and borrowed his bike for Katherine to ride. Katherine did not get far before crashing his bike and then Warren appeared and started laughing until he realized it was his bike! It was love at first site and she was determined to move to Dayton. They lived in Oakwood and raised two children until Warren’s death on June 11, 1980. Warren and Katherine were active in the Dayton Optimist & Opti-Mrs. Clubs and Katherine was a member of the Dayton Woman’s Club. A few years after Warren’s death Katherine moved to Kettering with her son and family and enjoyed spending everyday with her four precious grandchildren.

    Katherine was preceded in death by her Brother, Clarence Keith and William Ray Keith; Sisters, Elizabeth Marie Warndorf and Dorothy Keith. Katherine is survived by her Children, Nancy Jane Harlow of San Francisco and Douglas Warren Harlow (Wei) of Kettering; Grandchildren, Christopher Warren Harlow (Jenni), Danielle Nicole Harlow, Elizabeth Anne Kopec (Shane), Sara Katherine Duibley (Darryl) and Yinan Zhang Harlow; Great-Grandchildren, Novalee, Alexis, Maximus, Judah, Tessa, Alex, and Avarie and Duncan (due in September;) Brother, Richard Keith of Somerset; and many other caring relatives and friends.

    Ella Mae Ridings Grimsley, age 81 of Somerset, Ky., passed away on Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 at Britthaven of Somerset.

    Born on April 1, 1928 in Pulaski County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late James E. and Patsy Elizabeth Bullock Ridings. She was a homemaker and member of the Ansel Baptist Church. Mrs. Grimsley loved flower gardening, sewing, her family and friends. She considered the staff of Britthaven of Somerset her second family. Mrs. Grimsley was a loving mother and grandmother.

    Mrs. Grimsley is survived by three sons, Charles Robert (and Lana) Grimsley of Tateville, Ky., Gary Wayne (and Lynn) Grimsley of Somerset, and Bruce Allen Grimsley of Dallas, Texas; three daughters, Patsy (and Stanley) Wesley of Somerset, Rita Faye (and Rick) Gilreath of St. Louis, Mo., and Shirley Ann (and David) Hughes of Bronston, Ky.; four sisters, Barbara Ann (and Dewey) Sneed of Bardstown, Ky., Joyce Dean Jones of Somerset, Helen Louise (and Dee) Haste of Bardstown, Ky., and Mary Katherine Britt of Fla.; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

    Preceding her in death were her parents, James E. and Patsy Elizabeth Bullock Ridings; husband, John William Grimsley, whom she married on April 20, 1944 in LaFayette, Ga.; two sons, Frankie Jackson Grimsley and John Dean Grimsley; a brother, James Edward Ridings; and two sisters, Betty Jean Cox and Peggy Jo Hughes

    Visitation for Mrs. Grimsley will be Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.

    Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3 at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Lin Wethington officiating. Burial will be in the Somerset Cemetery.

    Joyce D. Ridings Jones, age 79, of Somerset, departed this life on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

    Joyce was born on January 30, 1935, to the late James and Patsy Ridings.  Joyce married William Ray “Buddy” Jones on August 2, 1971. She loved working on their dairy farm.  She was a retired farmer and homemaker.  She loved her animals.  Joyce will be missed by so many that knew her.  She loved all of her CNA’s at Somerwoods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  Joyce never met a stranger and had a way of making every one smile she came in contact with, no matter what kind of day they were having. 

     She is survived by her sons, Bobby Ray Ridings, of Boaz, Alabama, and Steven Ray Warren, of Springfield, Illinois; her daughter, Peggy Jo Warren, of Springfield, Illinois; two sisters, Barbara Sneed, of Bardstown and Helen (and Dee) Haste, of Bardstown; special nieces, Shirley (and David) Hughes and Rita (and Rick) Gilreath; a special nephew, Gary (and Lynn) Grimsley and several other nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews that will mourn her passing.

    Along with her parents, Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, William “Buddy” Jones, who passed away March 18, 1999; her sisters, Peggy Jo Hughes, Mary Katherine Brent, Ella Mae Grimsley, and Betty Jean Cox; her brother, James Edward Ridings; and a special niece, Patsy Wesley.

    Visitation for Joyce will be on Saturday, March 15, 2014 from 9:00am until 11:00am at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.  The funeral service will follow the visitation at 11:00am at the funeral home chapel.  Interment will be in Somerset Cemetery.

    Louisville - RIDINGS Jr, Kenneth "Kenny" Earl, 67, passed away October 17, 2018.

    Kenny was the co-owner of Brandy's Drapery. He was a attended of Beechland Baptist Church where he was in the praise band. He was also a member of the band, Reflections, and was a professional music DJ.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Kenneth Ridings, Sr.; brothers, Johnny and Ricky Ridings; and sister, Carol Craig.

    Kenny is survived by his wife, Cheryl (Horn) Ridings; children, Matt Ridings (Carey), Ryan Ridings (Kriste) and Elizabeth "Liz" Melton (Chad); grandchildren, Cooper, Jackson, Ava, and Raylan; and sisters, Martha Fahey, Lois Woolridge (Darrell), and Becky Lang.

    RIDINGS - Phillip L., 54, of Louisville, went to meet his Heavenly Father Sunday, September 3, 2006, at Baptist Hospital East after a courageous battle with cancer. Phillip Ridings was a proud employee of the Louisville Water Company for the past 26 ½ years. He was a Corvette enthusiast and re-builder of late model Corvettes. Phillip grew up in Utica, IN, and graduated from Jeffersonville High School in 1969. He attended Indiana University Southeast and the University of Louisville Speed School. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him. He was a beloved husband, son and brother. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert T. Ridings. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna R. Ridings; his mother, Kathleen R. Ridings; his brother, Taylor Ridings (Sharon Ridings); his twin sister, Lynn Ridings Vaught; several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. His family wishes to thank Dr. Grimaldi and all the doctors and nurses who cared for him at Consultants in Blood Disorders and Cancer (CBC), the wonderful nurses at Baptist East Hospital Oncology who cared for him in his final days as well as family, friends and neighbors who visited and kept him in their thoughts and prayers. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday and he will be laid to rest at Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Mr. Cox had also worked as a corrections officer and probation and parole officer for the Chesapeake Department of Corrections for the State of Virginia. Mr. Cox was a United States Army veteran. He enjoyed fishing and helping others. He was a loving father, grandfather, husband and brother. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Pat) Cox of Somerset, Ky., whom he married on Sept. 21, 2003 in Burnside, Ky.; Julia R. Cox-Ward, the mother of his children; three sons, Kevin (and Amanda) Cox of Somerset, Ky., Michael E. (and Charla) Cox of Custer, Ky., and a step-son, Charlie H.     Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Bud" Gibson, Sr., and he preceded her December 23, 2015; two brothers, Coy Lee Cox and Gary Wayne Cox; and a grandson, T.J. Jasper.

    Mark Edward "Ed" Ridings, 44 years 9 months and 29 days of age, of Somerset, Kentucky, departed this life on Wednesday, May 27th, 2020 at the Hospice Unit at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, Kentucky.

    Ed was born in Somerset, Kentucky on Tuesday, July 29th, 1975, son of the late James Eddie and Aldie Marie Haste Ridings. He was a member of Eubank Baptist Church, and enjoyed fireworks, celebrating with family, camping and playing football.

    Ed was survived by son, James Ridings of Cattlesburg, Kentucky, Emily Breana Sue Ridings of Cattlesburg, Kentucky; sister, Michelle Ridings of Somerset, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing.

    Ed was preceded in death by his parents, James Eddie Ridings, who departed this life on October 26th, 2005 and Aldie Marie Ridings, who departed this life May 26th, 2017; grandparents, Betty Louise Haste, Vern Haste, James Ishmael Ridings, and Patsy Elizabeth Bullock; and special sissy, Monica Denise Haste.

    Graveside services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31st, 2020 at the Sardis Christian Church Cemetery in Pulaski County, Kentucky.

    The Southern Oaks Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky was in charge of the arrangements for Ed.
