- Gary Wayne Cox, age 62 of Somerset, Ky., departed this life on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012 at his residence. He was born on May 13, 1950 in Somerset, Ky. to the late Hayden Coy and Betty Ridings Cox. He had formerly worked as an officer for the Somerset Police Department. Mr. Cox had also worked as a corrections officer and probation and parole officer for the Chesapeake Department of Corrections for the State of Virginia. Mr. Cox was a United States Army veteran. He enjoyed fishing and helping others. He was a loving father, grandfather, husband and brother. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Pat) Cox of Somerset, Ky., whom he married on Sept. 21, 2003 in Burnside, Ky.; Julia R. Cox-Ward, the mother of his children; three sons, Kevin (and Amanda) Cox of Somerset, Ky., Michael E. (and Charla) Cox of Custer, Ky., and a step-son, Charlie H. (and Chelsea) Smitson of Georgetown, Ky.; eight grandchildren, Gary Jerome Cox, Jordan Danielle Cox, Cody Wayne Cox, Blakely Adam Collingsworth, Baylee Ashton Collingsworth, Willow Reese Cox, Alyssa Brooke Smitson and Trevor Allen Smitson; and a sister, Connie Jean Cox (and Charles) Gibson of Somerset, Ky. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Coy Lee Cox. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012 after 5 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset, Ky. Funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Dr. Greg Ryan officiating. Interment will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Somerset, Ky. The family request expressions of sympathy be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, Ky., 42503. Lake Cumberland Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Gary Wayne Cox.
