- NEW TAZEWELL -- A woman died in a fire in her home near New Tazewell early Monday morning after alerting her mother, who escaped.
The victim has been identified as Rita Widener Beeler, 48.
The South Claiborne Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire on Clouds Road near New Tazewell about 1:00 a.m.
Investigators say Beeler woke her mother, Anne Widner, told her the house was on fire and Widner was able to escape without serious injuries.
Beeler's mother was treated and released from a hospital. She's now being cared for by family members.

Rita Faye Widner Beeler, age 48 of New Tazewell, TN was born on April 16, 1959 and passed away on March 3, 2008.
She was an employee of Tri-State Health and Rehabilitation, and a member of Elm Springs Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her: Father: Sammie Widner,

Son: Jason Beeler and wife Tiffanie of Washburn, TN Daughter: Stacy Beeler and special friend Robert (Radar) Lucas of Bean Station, TN Grandsons: Corey and Ryan Rucker of Bean Station, TN Granddaughter: Reagan Beeler of Washburn, TN
Brother and Sister-in-law: Steve Widner and wife Cindy of Tazewell, TN Sisters and Brothers-in-law: Teresa Bush and husband Richard of Tazewell, TN Sandie Walters and husband Dwayne of New Tazewell, TN Several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at Claiborne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the Claiborne Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Charlie Widner, Reverend Jimmy Poore, and Reverend Larry Beeler officiating.
Music will be provided by David and Juanita Honeycutt, and The Liberty Quartet.
Burial will follow in the Robertson Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Seth Seals, Derrick Seals, Sammie Widner, Brett Walters, Stevie Widner, and Tony Bales.
